The Karimui Show in Simbu Province celebrates the natural wonders of the Proposed Mt Karimui Conservation Area Project.

In it’s fourth year running, this special festival brings together local communities in the Karimui District in an effort to encourage awareness and appreciation of their natural environment. Experience the colorful ‘singsing’ (cultural dances) and unique rituals of the Simbu people of Karimui – famous for their cane walkers, uniques head-dresses and striking ceremonial face-paints.

The show is organized to promote Karimui District and increase education and awareness of conservation and sustainable livelihood and encourage local community participation.

The Karimui Show is hosted every year since 2018 to feature the conservation, agriculture and cultural potential of the Karimui Sub District to the outside world and market the tourism potential of the proposed conservation area.

PWM is looking to promote this event by seeking support from relevant partner organization, the government and business houses to continue hosting the Karimui show every year.

Purpose of Karimui Show;

Purpose: is to educate the people of Karimui District with alternative resource use, using culture, conservation and agriculture.

Aim: To educate and promote eco-tourism related activities in the Kairuku District Area to the outside world in relation to the conservation of the environment.

Objective: To seek and host this event and promote the importance of conservation of the environment, culture and increase sustainable living in the Kairmui Area.

Vision: To see our people participate fully and be active partners with the Simbu Provincial Government and other partners to host the event annually.

The show theme Life on Land: Our Livelihood falls under the IN 17 sustainable goals. The people of Karimui District would like to see a community where there is effective local participation in rural sustainable livelihood through the use of local traditional knowledge and natural resources found on their land for subsistence.
